Incised setts on Bedford Street

Pieces of quarried blocks, commonly referred to as setts, were once widely used, particularly on steeper streets because they provided horses' hooves with better grip than a smooth road surface. I do not know why these two blocks were incised and what the letters 'GW' and the number '79' (or perhaps '99') might refer to.
