Grade II* Listed late 18th century house. Occupied in late 18th century by William Murdoch, who made the first model steam-powered carriage in 1784 and also invented gas lighting and used it in the house in 1792, probably the first building in the world to be lit by gas. House damaged by fire in 1922. Note also the Grade II Listed St Rumons Cross. Probably early medieval, it was moved to its current location in about 1998 having been formerly set against wall on east side of garden to rear of Rose Cottage Tavern.
