The Geograph project started in 2005 with the aim of publishing, organising and preserving representative images for every square kilometre of Great Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

At one time Porthgain was an industrial port with a brick works but nowadays its activities are mostly aimed at holidaymakers including a pub, a restaurant and the Oriel Gallery advertised on the board in this picture. There is only one road in and out which passes the working K6 telephone box seen here.
