A view from a window in The Dukeries Lodge Hotel. The spoil heap at Thoresby Colliery (1925-2015) is on the skyline. The Edwinstowe Historical Society website explains that in 1951 Thoresby became the first nationalised mine to exceed a million tons output in one year. It was one of the most productive and profitable coal mines in Europe for many years.
