Early 18th Century house on Romeland Hill, built by Sir Christopher Wren's stonemason, Sir Edward Strong. It was home to Frederick Vandermeulen, a wealthy Dutchman who had made St Albans his home and who in 1750 commissioned the architect Sir Robert Taylor to work further on the building, including the frontage and interior design. It now serves as offices. Grade II* listed - see www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1103038.
