Also known as Californian poppies, this plant is native to the US and Mexico, extending to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora and Baja California. The leaves of Golden poppies can be eaten or used as garnish; its seeds are used in cooking. Classed a medicinal herb, parts of the plant are used as a sedative and diuretic, to relieve pain, relax spasms and to promote perspiration.
