Former smallholdings on the slopes of Mynydd Rhiw

The infertile land on the lower slopes of Mynydd Rhiw were enclosed and divided into smallholdings in the first half of the 19thC. The tiny fields of this zone contrast with the much larger fields of what in Welsh is called "llawr gwlad" (lit.=floor of the country i.e the lowland areas). These smallholding fields are now used for family pets - donkeys, goats and ponies.
