This was the first County Championship match to be played on the Isle of Wight for 57 years. It proved a happy return to The Island for Hampshire, who won the match by 244 runs (Hampshire 310 and 376 for 5 declared, Nottinghamshire 239 and 194). This is a view of the grass bank on the Blackwater Road side of the picturesque Newclose County Cricket Ground, taken on the sunny second morning of the match.
