Located on the wall here https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6154638 the Lampeter Town Heritage Trail plaque records that near here stood St Thomas Priory where in 1188 Gerald the Welshman stayed overnight on his journey through Wales with Baldwin, Archbishop of Canterbury, to raise support for the Third Crusade. Sermons were preached by the archbishop, Gerald and the Cistercian abbots of Whitland and Strata Florida. Gerald records that many persons were induced to take the Cross. Nothing remains of the Priory, but lead coffins have been found nearby in what is thought to be the graveyard of the monks. The text is also in Welsh.
