From Westfield Road into the northwest side of the municipal cemetery. Derived from an old English word for a corpse, a lych gate is the roofed gateway to a burial ground, formerly used to shelter a coffin until the clergyman’s arrival for the burial. Burnham Joint Burials Committee manages this cemetery and also Highbridge Cemetery and Brent Road Cemetery.
