The grave of the Playford Family

This stone cross draped with a wreath and half hidden in bushes marks the grave of the Playford family. Buried here are Jane, the wife of William Playford and second daughter of the late Edmund Gooch (d 29 March 1866, aged 45); Edmund, only son of William and Jane Playford (d 31 Jan 1889, aged 38); William Playford (d 4 March 1897, aged 77); Maria Christmas, wife of John Clarke of Rackheath and second daughter of the late Edmund Gooch of Rose Street in this city (d 9 March 1865, aged 44); Edmund Cox (20 Feb 1828 - 13 July 1878); Mary Ann, wife of the above (22 Oct 1829 - 4 May 1893); Edmund, only son of Henry James and Elizabeth Gooch of King Street in this city; Henry James Gooch (d 2 April 1890, aged 63) who, so the inscription informs, was for "Many years a faithful servant at King Street Old Brewery". His wife Elizabeth (17 April 1885, aged 66) is also buried here.
