Not to be confused with the similarly-named inn at East Harptree, this pub is the prime meeting point of the village, and has been so for many years. Both are part of the large estate hereabouts of the Waldegrave family and businesses. Much of the village will come under the wings of the estate in some form or other. The land and properties were originally given to Sir Edward Waldegrave by Queen Mary in 1553; the family still has ownership to this day.
