Part of Thomas Hine's comprehensive design for the development of the Park Estate, providing access for carriages to Derby Road. Completed in 1855. This is the central light shaft, complete with staircase access – not always open. Listed Grade II. This angle shows the natural Bunter Sandstone through which the tunnel is carved.
