New Statue of Amy Johnson in Hull

This sculpture stands in Amy Johnson Square, within a park in a new housing development, near Hawthorn Avenue in Hull, close to her childhood home. Amy Johnson, born in Hull in 1903, was the first female pilot to fly solo from Britain to Australia in 1930. Hull born actress Maureen Lipman unveiled this statue in 2016 on the 75th anniversary of Amy's death. In World War II while transporting an RAF plane she crashed in the Thames Estuary in 1941.
