Out of the site of Essex House, demolished in the 1990s, arises Croydon's claim to fame. The 101 George Street development will be the world's tallest modular towers, at 38 and 44 storeys. The modules (flats) are built off-site and "clipped" on to the concrete cores, speeding up the whole process. They will provide 546 flats; it's unlikely cat-swingers will find satisfaction.
