The Hall itself is in SP7611 and was begun around 1500, but the lake in the foreground is a medieval moat from an earlier Manor House on the site. It has been retained in the grounds as an ornamental feature. Good wintertime views of the hall can be had from the footpath along the edge of the garden when the trees are bare. During the English Civil War the Hall was home to Simon Mayne, one of the group of Parliamentarians who signed the death warrant for King Charles.
