Cast iron post by the A531, in parish of BETLEY (NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME District), Main Street, in front of Whitegates, on the verge in front of wooden fence, on West side of road. Dudley iron casting, erected by the Newcastle under Lyme & Nantwich turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : MILES / BASFORD 3 / NANTWICH 7½ : : PARISH / OF / BETLEY : : MILES / NEWCASTLE 8 / KEELE 5 : Grade II listed.
