Even when this picture was taken this canalside pub was still throwback to an earlier age with a fantastic and unique character. One entered through the doorway to the left under the sign and seemed to be entering someone's sitting room rather than a bar, although there were more seats that would be expected in the former. There was no bar as such - the landlady would take the order and then go down into the cellar with a jug and return with your beer! The toilets were also of a similar character, with the outdoor gents relying on run off from the roof for flushing!
