There are four nurseries on a short stretch of the A40 South of Denham. This is the Colne Valley. The river is small and flows south, but 400,000 years ago this was the valley of the Thames flowing north, then through East Anglia and joining the Rhine. Ice and glaciers then blocked the Thames - but it left behind rich land suitable for these nurseries.
