The bridge has mock turrets and crenellations to give the appearance of a castle gateway. It would no doubt have carried "Castle" steam locomotives in its time but the Great Western Service of 2018 is all diesel apart from the odd summer charter train. Dating from 1855, it is listed grade 2 (list entry 1393567) as "a good example of an ornamental accommodation bridge constructed to a design by the engineer and architect Isambard Kingdom Brunel".
