Gun testing firing range on the airfield for the alignment of aircraft wing mounted guns, or more probably, just the guns themselves. There is an accumulation of sloping earth in all 5 compartments, reminiscent of the slope of sand seen in similar compartments of other aircraft gun testing butts. However, it should be mentioned that Canmore [https://canmore.org.uk/collection/1043961] suggests this was possibly a brick built base for a high water tank, but I don't think so. Image
