BAE Systems - Barrow-in-Furness

The water is Devonshire Dock that was partly in-filled to construct the huge building that is Devonshire Dock Hall and used to construct Britain's nuclear submarines. Left of centre is the fourth of the Astute class hunter killer SSN's - HMS Audacious. Three of the class are now in service and three more are in construction. They will be followed by the Trident replacement boats. I almost didn't notice the boat in the very strong winds that were a bit distracting. On the right is a very strange plastic enclosed item with much plumbing on top. Some pictures on the internet show this is a barge that can be placed alongside and hooked up to submarines. I think it must be part of the test and commissioning scheme for the reactors. I would welcome more information but doubt any will be forthcoming. Be warned, BAE security may wish to take your details if you photograph the huge works from public places. However, there is no suggestion that photography from public places is not allowed. However, there are many warning notices that trespass is a criminal offence and that unauthorised mobile phones or photographic equipment cannot be taken into the site.
