Edinburgh Napier University's modern architecture encloses Merchiston Tower, former home of the mathematician and necromancer John Napier (1550 – 1617) from whom the university takes its name. This shot is taken from the modern high rise block that looks down upon the old fortified house. The modern building just beyond the tower is the Jack Kilby Computer Centre, named for, and opened by, the inventor of integrated circuits (1923 – 2005). You can also see some of the tenements of Mardale Crescent... and very faintly some of the shale bings of West Lothian.
