The 'Spirit of Aviation' celebrates the role the aviation industry in Gloucester in particular during WWII when the Gloster Meteor which was built here became the first British jet fighter and the Allies' only jet aircraft to be used in combat during the Second World War. This sculpture by Simon Stringer in 1999 and commissioned by Gloucester City Council. It stands on the junction of The Oxebode with Northgate Street.
