Opened in 1873 as "Shaftesbury Road" by the London & South Western Railway on the line from Richmond to Hammersmith, the Metropolitan District Railway started serving the station in 1877. It was given its present name in 1888. The LSWR withdrew their trains in 1916 and the station is now part of the London Underground network. View west towards Stamford Brook, Richmond and Heathrow. Like 55% of the London Underground network, this part is actually overground.
