St Myllin, after whom the town of Llanfyllin takes its name, is believed to have been a 6th or 7th century Irish monk. Although the historical evidence is scant, Myllin is said to have carried out baptisms by immersion here at this well - the first in Britain. The restoration of the well won the Prince of Wales Award in 1987.
