The delightful traffic-free Broadwalk runs along the edge of the Pavilion Gardens. Perhaps the most prestigious address in Buxton the right side of the walk is occupied by a series of substantial villas originally laid out by Sir Joseph Paxton circa 1850. Although most of the surrounding houses were built by speculative developers, some are reputed to be designed in detail by Paxton's pupil Edward Milner and built by Saunders & Woolcott of London for the 7th Duke of Devonshire.
