Former roof line

Not unusual in 18th century cottages, to have a thatched roof replaced with a tile one in the more affluent 19th. But it is rarely so obvious as here, where the upper storey has been extended with brick over the original stone. I think that, before the conversion, the building would have looked quite a lot like Image, with thatched dormers lighting attic rooms from a low angle. The modified rooms must have been far more comfortable.
