Curious milestone at Ardwick Green Located on Ardwick Green South Image, this Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1207607 milestone appears to read: 11 Miles to Wilmslow 184 Miles to LONDON A mile to ?? The last name is buried into the pavement but actually reads Manchester. It is somewhat curious that it mentions Wilmslow rather than Stockport. However it appears that it has been relocated here from its original position on the A34. The Route From Manchester To Oxford ~ An Itinerary ~ By John Higgins https://milestonesociety.wordpress.com/2014/05/18/the-route-from-manchester-to-oxford-an-itinerary/ quotes "1.0 Grosvenor Square on right, Chorlton on Medlock. Continue ahead on Oxford Road (B5117). The 18th century Wilmslow turnpike started from a junction on the A6 and proceeded to here before turning south on Oxford Road."
