Priorities

22 Jan 2024

Tackling Retail Theft and Anti-Social Behaviour linked to Lymington High Street.

Lymington has seen an increase in reported incidents of retail theft centred on the High Street. Our objective is to ensure that Lymington remains a safe place for visitors and retailers by tackling those who seek to profit from crime.

Response (22 Jan 2024)

1. Identify repeat offenders and seek to deal robustly with those causing the most harm. Foot and cycle patrols to be used to deter and catch criminals from committing offences
2. Share details of offenders with local retail premises to increase their knowledge and increase vigilance.
3. Engage with local schools when information links young people to crime and anti-social behaviour.
4. Use of social media to identify unknown suspects, who may well have travelled to the town from outside the district to commit crime in areas where they are not known.

*27/10/23 - Operation Swift carried out with BTP officers targeting criminals using the rail network to come to New Milton and Lymington to commit retail theft. Multiple persons spoken to, some were stopped and searched, with drugs being found on a few people. Shop staff engagement about what the operation was about, also carried out.
