The Promenade Gardens at St Anne's cover a big area of the seafront. They run between the wide beachfront footpath and the highway, for most of the length of the promenade. The North Promenade Gardens were laid out after 1896, followed by the South Promenade Gardens in 1913-14. The attractive and well-maintained mature gardens are just a short walk from the main town centre of St Anne’s. They include lawned areas, wind-pruned hedges and bushes, formally planted beds and winding paths. The large rockery runs along the landward side of the gardens. It is planted with salt tolerant shrubs and hedging which offers some protection to the plants from harsh winds blowing off the sea. A series of shallow ponds are interlinked with little streams, each of them circled by paths with a series of bridges and stepping stones.
