The road on the right is Tramway Path and the footpath to the left of it leads to the Mitcham tram stop as is made clear by the recently erected TRAMS roundel. The tramway itself, opened in 2000, runs over the course of the former railway line between West Croydon and Wimbledon which operated between 1856-1997. To complicate matters further, the streetname 'Tramway Path' pre-dates the present tramway but derives from the Surrey Iron Railway (a horse-drawn plateway which existed between 1802-1846) whose course here was followed by the now-closed railway.
