This is the same branch as Image, but shot from below, looking upwards. The male cones hang down, and are much smaller. Like the female ones they take two years to mature, and next year they will grow an extraordinary finger that comes out, curves round and rises above the leaves, before releasing pollen to the wind, to pollinate female flowers that will each form another cone similar to the female one already photographed.
