The Furrough Cross United Reformed Church was originally built as a Free Episcopal Church in 1853 using local grey limestone. It was built by parishioners who objected to the Tractarian https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_Movement character of Torquay Anglicanism with the "Popish doctrines" (i.e. High Church ritual) at the parish church; its modest design contrasting with the High Church architecture of most of Torquay's nineteenth century churches. It is a Grade II listed building (Historic England List entry Number: 1207800 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1207800 ).
