The tolbooth is a very prominent three storey courthouse with an imposing three stage tower and belfry dating from 1838-1839 in the Scots Baronial style. It is currently undergoing restoration and is a Category A listed building. https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/200372993-high-street-tolbooth-forres-ward#.W12muTGWw5s Standing on the site of a former market cross, the pinnacled mercat cross in the foreground dates from 1844 and was modelled on the Scott Monument in Edinburgh.
