A closer look at the fading mural in Crowcroft Park (Image]). The four "famous faces" here are: JJ Thompson - Nobel prize-winning physicist credited with the discovery of the first subatomic particle in 1897. Emmeline Pankhurst - political activist and leader of the British suffragette movement who helped women win the right to vote Mark Addy - publican and champion oarsman, who was awarded the Albert Medal (forerunner of the George Cross) for the rescue of over 50 people from the highly polluted River Irwell in the 19th century. David Lloyd George – The final member of the Liberal party to serve as Prime Minister. All of whom were born in Manchester.
