Opie Street past the Castle Chambers

Opie Street is named after the Romantic poet, novelist and playwright Amelia Opie whose house, or rather her parents', where she lived after the death of her husband, stands at the eastern end of it, although it has a Castle Meadow address. Not mentioned in any guidebook is the pre-Victorian era name of this street which was Gropekunte Lane, named after the prostitutes who plied their trade here once upon a time.
