Tayler and Green, a Lowestoft architectural practice founded in 1938, is best known for its council housing for the Loddon Rural District in Norfolk, over 700 dwellings built between 1945 and 1973. The definitive guide to the practice (Tayler and Green Architects 1938-1973: The Spirit of Place in Modern Housing, by Elain Harwood and Alan Powers, London 1998) lists new nursing staff accommodation for Shenley Hospital, built in 1961-62, among their works but adds "Demolished". However, the relief pattern of the gable end brickwork on this single-storey cottage, the curved garden wall and (less easily seen here) the trellis on the front wall are all characteristic of Tayler & Green's work for Loddon, as this example shows Image
