The Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart & St Thérèse of the Child Jesus is part of the Diocese of Plymouth, viewed across Cecil Road from the corner of Churchward Road. The church's website records that the land for the church was purchased in 1924. Before the church's ownership, four thatched cottages stood here. The church foundation stone was laid in 1930. The building, with its distinctive high tower (27 metres/90 ft), was completed in 1931. Behind the church, the new Sacred Heart School opened in 1935, replacing the school at Colley End which had become overcrowded and outdated. The presbytery (priests' house) https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5725740 on the left was built in 1938.
