North Lodge, situated by the entrance on Bowthorpe Road, was built in 1855/56 and once housed the Cemetery Superintendent. The first superintendent was James Self, and he was in charge of the non-conformist burials. He lived in the North Lodge until his death in March 1883 and is buried in the vicinity.
