The undistinguished rendered building towards the left was the school provided by John Marshall around 1822 for workers at his first flax mill http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5704036. By 1844, out of a total workforce of 2600 (presumably also by this stage incorporating those at Temple Works), over 500 were under 13, and this would be their only provision for education. Listed Grade II
