Built in 1877 as a public hall, reading room and market hall. The base for the parish [later town] council after 1894. The tower and clock was added in 1902. The plaque to the right [south] of the entrance is a war memorial - "In memory of the men of Low and High Bentham who fell in the two world wars". 54 names are recorded for '1914-1918' and 20 for '1939-1945'.
