This section of railway line links the line from Sheffield with the high level (i.e., East Coast main line) platforms at Retford station, leaving the former at Whisker Hill Junction (behind the photographer). The Sheffield to Cleethorpes line formerly crossed the ECML by way of a flat crossing just south of Retford station, passenger trains on that route using this link to reach the passenger station. In 1965, the flat crossing was removed and the former line was lowered to pass under the ECML, with new low level platforms constructed to enable trains to continue to call. This link therefore only sees infrequent use by passenger trains. Seen from Ordsall Road.
