This channel was built to feed water from the river Tanat into the Montgomery Canal. The small bridge visible carried the railway from Llanymynech to Llanfyllin over the channel. The railway was abandoned in the 1960s (your photographer travelled on it shortly before it closed). The canal was abandoned in 1944 but is now in process of being reinstated.
