Rising here is a new development, Southbank Place, comprising flats, offices and shops. It is being built on the site of part of the former Shell Centre - the tower, visible at far right, survives. Based on the evidence so far, it's doubtful that it will do anything to enhance London's riverscape or ameliorate the shortage of properly affordable housing.
