Grade II Listed 18th century house. Bedford House was, from 1844 to 1864, headquarters for the Bedford Level Corporation, the body responsible for the main drainage of the Fens during the 17th century. From 1905 it housed Ely High School for Girls with the single-storey section retained by the Corporation until 1967. In 1957 the school was moved to a purpose built new building in Downham Road. Listed as by them as Ely Education Centre it opened in 1973 as a Youth Hostels Association (England and Wales) summer seasonal hostel that closed 31st August 1986. With various educational uses the building was later given over to become flats and a day centre.
