For a little more context, see Image The present picture was taken from what appears to have been the larger room of the house; behind the two upright stones shown here was a smaller room. My first thought was that this was the remains of a fireplace, but the smaller room behind it would then have needed its own exterior door for access, in which case it would probably have been employed only for storage. If so, it seems unlikely that it would have had a substantial window: Image There may instead have been steps here, leading up into a smaller room with a higher floor. A hole in the left stone (not visible from this angle, but shown in Image) would then have been for the bolt of a door. The site is mostly rubble now, rendering any such deductions very speculative.
