The garden was constructed by a team from Glasgow Urban Wildlife Group, Scottish Conservation Projects Trust, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Glasgow University. The name comes from the cartoon character 'Oor Wullie' in the Scottish newspaper the Sunday Post. See the same site under construction in early 1987 [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5642480].
