Brass memorial plaque to 'Belle of the East', a B24 which crashed opposite the pub on 25th August 1944. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5625648 There were no serious injuries but the aircraft was written-off. A detailed account can be seen by opening the link http://beltonhistory.co.uk/?p=177
