The plague struck the village of Eyam in 1665 (brought from London in some damp cloth). The village cut itself off to prevent it spreading, but even so 260 out of the village population of 350 died. The Hawksworth family lived here and all but one died in the outbreak of the plague. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5598296 for their details.
